Anonymous writes "The 2006 first annual Positive Paddle + Paddle Positive will also be the first-of-its-kind sea kayaking benefit in the Pacific Northwest.
This event will be based out of Seafarers' Memorial Park in Anacortes, Washington and include three non-competitive courses – something for everyone and at all skill levels: a 17.5-mile counterclockwise circumnavigation of Guemes Island, a 7-mile circumnavigation of Saddlebag Island and a 3-mile loop course in Fidalgo Bay.
Volunteer paddling experts will also be on hand to give free pointers and even partner with first-timers in tandem kayaks for the 3-mile loop. Courtesy kayaks will be available as well!
Throughout the day, participants and spectators will also enjoy vendor booths, dancing, music, food, art and prize ceremonies. And the culminating event of the day will be the “Keep the Promise Raft-Up” where we will try to set the world's record!
Each participant must raise a minimum of $75 in pledges prior to the event to enter and many fantastic incentives will be available to help encourage increased pledges. All proceeds from this event will benefit Evergreen AIDS Foundation, based in Bellingham , Washington and serving persons living with HIV/AIDS in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties . Evergreen AIDS Foundation, started in 1985, provides direct client services, education and prevention outreach to increase public awareness of HIV disease, prevent new disease and care for the sick.
